Women's Diets: Weight Management
Posted: October 2005

This week on Healthwatch, we're talking about ways a registered dietitian can help women lead healthier lives. Body image is a major issue for modern women. Many women struggle constantly to lose weight, with yo-yo dieting and eating disorders sometimes the result. Women who are overweight, underweight or who have a history of anorexia or bulimia can find help from a dietitian.
Lona Sandon , a registered dietitian at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, says a healthful eating plan can help you manage your weight and improve your body image. A registered dietitian who specializes in eating disorders or weight management can help you develop a plan that works for your body type and teach you how to use food as a tool to nourish your body instead of as a weapon for punishing it. Healthful eating and regular exercise can get you in better shape both mentally and physically.
