This week on Healthwatch, we've been talking about how registered dietitians can help women maintain their health in various phases of life. A dietitian can help you have a healthier pregnancy, manage your weight, deal with digestive problems, and prevent or manage chronic diseases.
Lona Sandon , a registered dietitian at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, says the right diet can also help you perform better physically and mentally. If you're an athlete, a dietitian can be a good training partner, helping you plan a diet that improves your stamina and strength. If you just have a busy life with work and kids, a good diet will help you have the energy to keep up.
Ms. Sandon recommends a checkup with a dietitian at least once every decade to make sure your diet is meeting your health needs. To find a registered dietitian, visit www.eatright.org .
