Women's Diets: Digestive Disorders
Posted: October 2005
Source: UT Southwestern Health Watch
We're talking about women's diets this week on Healthwatch. A woman's digestive system may go through changes in different stages of life. Lona Sandon , a registered dietitian at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, says a registered dietitian may be able to help you deal with some of these changes.
Problems like chronic constipation, indigestion, bloating, or diarrhea may be related to hormonal changes. They may also be caused by lactose intolerance or more serious problems like thyroid imbalances, irritable bowel syndrome or gastritis. A change in diet may make it easier to manage these conditions and avoid some of the unpleasant digestive symptoms. A registered dietitian can help you identify foods that trigger symptoms or that may help you feel better.
